Jess Bell

Jess Bell is a self taught oil painter who grew up at the Jersey Shore in Wall, a short mile from the beach. She currently resides in Middletown, New Jersey with her husband and three children. She has loved art for as long as she can remember and began teaching herself how to oil paint as a young adult.

Jess takes her own reference photos from local beaches all hours of the day including sunrise. She captures the fleeting moments where the ocean displays interesting reflections. Jess enjoys painting coastal beach scenes and finds the ocean and water a never ending source of inspiration.

She paints daily in her home studio that she shares with her kids. She enjoys sharing the love of art and creativity with them.

Jess uses high quality oil paints (Gamblin Artist's Oil Colors, Mussini, Old Holland Classic Oil Colors, and Winsor & Newton Artist's Oil Colors) and paints on Masterpiece Gallery Canvases or Ampersand's cradled Gessobords. She does not use any solvents or mineral spirits. She varnishes and protects her paintings using Gamblin's Gamvar Matte varnish.

She is an Elected Artist Member in the American Artists Professional League and an Associate Member of the Oil Painters of America.  She is currently represented at Main Street Gallery in Manasquan, New Jersey.  Follow her on Instagram to see her current work and process.
